(Sylmar, Calif.) – On January 25, 2005 Quintessence Photonics Corporation (QPC) released its first 2D Monolithic Laser Emitting Diode for the “pumping” of solid-state lasers.

“Our discrete monolithic design, allows for a much higher power density then has been previously available” said George Lintz, Chief Operating Officer of Quintessence Photonics Corporation. “The design will aid in the ease of assembly, lower costs and provide a more reliable use by eliminating leaks and the clogging of micro-channel coolers and O-rings”

“This breakthrough technology will initially be used to pump solid state lasers” adds Jefferery Ungar, Ph.D., President, Chief Executive Officer and Co-Founder of Quintessence Photonics Corporation.” By replacing existing stacks which have proven unreliable with our new Surface Emitting design, QPC will provide cost effective solutions for manufactures while leading the trend towards replacing flash-lamp pumps with diode pumps”

The Surface Emitting architecture, when combined with QPC’s revolutionary breakthrough in beam quality, will enable the possibility of direct diode applications without using solid state medium such as YAG. The efficiencies that are possible with direct diode solutions will further reduce the cost of laser materials processing and therefore open markets for wider use of potential laser users.
