(SYLMAR, CA) March 22, 2005 — Quintessence Photonics Corporation (QPC), a world leader in the design and manufacture of innovative high power semiconductor lasers, announced today that Paul Rudy, Ph.D. has joined QPC as Senior Vice President of Marketing and Sales.

Dr. Rudy brings to Quintessence more than 8 years of experience in the laser industry. Prior to joining QPC, Dr. Rudy served as Director of Marketing at Coherent Inc.’s Semiconductor Business Unit. There, he led the tactical and strategic marketing activities of the high power diode laser business, overseeing product management and developing strategies for the business unit’s technology, products, and markets.

Prior to this role, Dr. Rudy worked as Coherent Inc.’s North American Market Development Manager responsible for developing and executing sales and tactical marketing strategies for the corporation’s defense and graphics arts business. He has also held positions as product manager for unmounted bars and diode arrays and regional sales. Dr. Rudy received his masters and doctoral degrees in physics from the University of Rochester, studying laser manipulation of atoms. He completed his undergraduate work with honors at Duke University, earning a B.S. and B.A. in physics and philosophy, respectively.
