(SYLMAR, CA) Monday November 13, 2006 — Quintessence Photonics Corporation, subsidiary of QPC Lasers, Inc. (OTCBB:QPCI - News), announced today the release of BrightLase® Semiconductor Laser Modules and their shipment to customers into medical applications.
“QPC has shipped lower power products to our customers in the medical market for several years. We are pleased to announce the shipment and successful customer acceptance of our next generation BrightLase® modules at several application specific wavelengths,” stated Paul Rudy, Ph.D., Vice President of Marketing and Sales for QPC.
The laser component of the medical equipment market is estimated to be more than $400 million and is served today with traditional gas, diode, solid state and fiber laser technology. QPC’s BrightLase® Semiconductor Laser Modules are designed to offer a direct semiconductor laser solution with several compelling advantages over traditional laser technology including reduced size, lower system costs, and high power delivered in narrow core diameter fibers at application specific wavelengths in the near infrared and eye-safe range. The addressable medical applications include ophthalmology, dermatology including hair removal, dentistry, varicose vein treatment, and enhanced magnetic resonance imaging of lung and brain tissue.
QPC’s high brightness laser modules utilize BrightLase®, a proprietary advanced semiconductor laser technology that uniquely delivers a high brightness laser beam from a compact, conduction cooled, rugged source. BrightLase® Semiconductor Laser Modules deliver up to 35 Watts and are available at wavelengths including 795nm, 808nm, 976nm, 1064nm, and 1380nm, with additional wavelengths in development. The modules are available in a fiber coupled configuration with fiber diameters as small as 200 micron or without a fiber such that the laser beam is delivered in a collimated output through an exit window of the sealed module. The laser modules can be used directly or as engines for pumping multi-stage fiber and solid state systems.
