Our Company & Our Vision For Diode Laser Technology

Diode laser technology consists of the most efficient, compact and cost-effective lasers in the world. A perceived drawback to diode lasers is performance limitations that once barred them from many important industrial, medical and defense applications. QPC Lasers was established to break through those barriers with its revolutionary Brightlock® and Brightlase® technologies.

Our History

Our company was founded in 2000. In the finest Silicon Valley tradition, we started in the backhouse of a residence located in the suburban neighborhood of Valley Village, California. Within 9 months, we had moved to a 40,000 square foot industrial building in the Los Angeles suburb of Sylmar, which is where we are located to this day.


QPC lasers includes the founding technical team who came from fiberoptic pioneer Ortel Corporation (since acquired by Lucent Technologies). We soon broadened our team by including engineering, operational and marketing talent from photonics leaders including Bell Laboratories, Coherent, Spectra-Physics and Quantronix.


Our company was founded on the premise that new high power diode lasers designs could perform, at far lower expense, smaller size and greater efficiency. Diode lasers are applicable to tasks previously requiring gas, solid-state and fiber lasers. The vision then remains our vision still, and after more than two decades of development that promise has been translated into reality.

Factory & Corporate Headquarters

Business, engineering and manufacturing operations are performed under one roof at our 40,000 square foot factory in Sylmar, California. Our factory is conveniently located less than 25 miles from downtown Los Angeles.

Our factory is fully vertically integrated. This means that every manufacturing function is performed under the same roof. It includes MOCVD epitaxial growth and diode fabrication. Then, optoelectronic packaging and fiber-coupling. And ending at final testing and performance validation.

The benefit to vertical integration is that it allows us to monitor every stage of the diode laser manufacturing process. It also provides for unequalled control of product quality. Through vertical integration, we have the freedom to optimize every detail of product design and deliver the optimum in performance and reliability. Manufacturers who merely integrate off-the-shelf chips and optics, or who rely on outside services to perform critical manufacturing processes such as MOCVD epitaxy, cannot make that claim.

In addition to products manufactured in Sylmar, we also offer low cost multi-single-emitter modules which are fiber-coupled under our supervision in Pinghu, China, just outside of Shanghai.

Roughly 20% of our 50+ Sylmar-based employees hold Ph.D. degrees in Engineering, Physics or related fields.

The Company is certified to an ISO9001:2015 quality system. We are also registered with the U. S. Department of State as an ITAR supplier.
